Chemical & Cold Peels
A chemical peel applies a measured solution to the skin to loosen the outer layer of dead cells, so fresher skin comes through. At our Al Qusais, Dubai clinic, our aesthetic physician plans peels for dull skin, uneven tone, mild acne marks and rough texture, choosing the depth and time of year for your skin.
Which peels do we offer?
Standard chemical peel
A light-to-medium peel chosen for your skin type and concern. Your skin may feel tight and peel lightly for several days afterwards.
Cold peel
A gentler peel that takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Dr. Keerthana recommends it during the hot months, when stronger peels are not advised because freshly peeled skin is more sensitive to the sun.
Cold peel with mesotherapy
The cold peel combined with mesotherapy, where a cocktail of skin-supporting ingredients is applied into the skin, for a session focused on hydration and tone.
Who are peels suitable for?
Most skin types, when the strength is matched to the skin. Darker skin tones need particular care because of the risk of pigmentation, and this is part of the assessment. Peels are not done on broken or sunburnt skin, during some acne medicines, or shortly after waxing or other facial treatments. Tell the doctor about any skincare actives you use, such as retinoids.
For stubborn dark patches, see pigmentation treatment; for deeper acne scars, microneedling may suit better.
What happens at the appointment?
The skin is cleansed, the peel is applied and left for a set time while it is watched closely, then it is neutralised or removed and soothing products and sunscreen are applied. You may feel warmth or tingling during the peel.
Afterwards:
- Use sunscreen every day and avoid direct sun; this matters more than anything else after a peel.
- Do not pick or pull at peeling skin.
- Pause exfoliants and retinoids for as long as you are told.
- Call the clinic if you notice blistering or patches that are not settling.
How many peels will I need?
Peels are usually done as a short course a few weeks apart. The doctor recommends the type of peel, the number of sessions and the timing for your skin, and gives you the price after assessing it.
Risks and what to expect
What to expect
A peel takes 15 to 30 minutes. After a standard peel the skin can feel tight and flake for several days; a cold peel usually causes little visible peeling. Peels are often done as a course, and daily sunscreen is essential afterwards.
Possible side effects and risks
- Redness, stinging, tightness and flaking for a few days
- Temporary darkening of the skin (post-inflammatory pigmentation), more likely on darker skin or with sun exposure
- Sensitivity to the sun for some weeks after the peel
- A cold sore flare-up in people who get them
- Rarely, blistering, infection or scarring
Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed. At your consultation your clinician will explain the risks that apply to you, and the alternatives, before you decide.
