Hair Loss Treatment

Non-surgical hair loss treatment uses scalp treatments such as PRP, GFC and hair mesotherapy to support thinning hair follicles, chosen once a doctor has looked for the cause of your hair loss. At our Al Qusais, Dubai clinic, our aesthetic physician, Dr. Keerthana Gopal, assesses you first, because thinning can come from genetics, hormones, stress, illness or diet.

Which hair loss treatments do we offer?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma)

A small sample of your own blood is spun to concentrate the platelets, which carry growth factors, and the plasma is injected into the thinning areas of the scalp. More detail is on our PRP hair treatment page.

GFC (growth factor concentrate)

Also prepared from your own blood, using a different process to collect the growth factors, then injected into the scalp.

Mesotherapy for hair

A blend of vitamins and other ingredients delivered into the scalp with fine injections or a microneedling pen.

The doctor often combines these, for example PRP with GFC or PRP with mesotherapy, depending on how advanced the thinning is.

Who is it for?

These treatments are most often used for pattern thinning in men and women and for diffuse thinning. They are less likely to help where the follicles are no longer active, such as long-standing bald areas. If the assessment suggests an underlying medical cause, the doctor tells you before recommending any treatment.

How many sessions will you need?

Hair grows in cycles, so treatment is a course rather than a single session: typically five to seven sessions about four weeks apart, depending on how severe the hair loss is. Some patients notice fine new hairs from around the second or third session; others take longer, and results vary.

The doctor reviews your progress against photos taken at the start. You are usually advised not to wash your hair or use hair products for the rest of the day after a session.

How much does hair loss treatment cost in Dubai?

The doctor gives you the cost once she has assessed your hair loss and the number of sessions you are likely to need.

Risks and what to expect

What to expect

Treatment starts with a doctor's assessment, sometimes with blood tests. Scalp treatments are given as a course, often monthly for several months, then less often. Any change takes months to show, results vary, and they do not continue if the cause of the hair loss goes on.

Possible side effects and risks

  • Soreness, tenderness or a tight feeling of the scalp for a day or two
  • Small bruises or pinpoint bleeding at the injection points
  • Headache after the session
  • Infection at the injection points, which is rare
  • Some people see little or no change, and hair loss can continue if its cause continues

Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed. At your consultation your clinician will explain the risks that apply to you, and the alternatives, before you decide.

Typically five to seven sessions about four weeks apart, depending on how severe the thinning is. Some patients notice fine new hairs from around the second or third session; results vary.

Neither is better for everyone. Both are prepared from your own blood, in different ways, and are often combined. The doctor suggests one, or a combination with mesotherapy, after assessing the type and extent of your hair loss.

It can. Pattern and diffuse thinning in women are among the most common reasons for these treatments. The doctor first checks for causes such as hormonal changes or low iron, which may need treating as well.

Most people find them manageable. The scalp can feel tender, look a little red or have small pinpoint marks for a day or two. Treatments made from your own blood also involve a routine blood draw from the arm.

Not indefinitely. Any improvement depends on the follicles staying active, and hair loss continues if its cause continues. After the first course, the doctor may suggest less frequent maintenance sessions.
