Medical Facials
A medical facial, or medifacial, is a clinic facial that starts with a skin consultation, uses professional-grade products and adds machine-based steps where they help. At our Al Qusais, Dubai clinic, our beauty and laser therapists choose the facial for your skin and concern, such as dullness, congestion, acne or uneven tone.
Which facials do we offer?
HydraFacial
A machine-based facial that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates in a series of steps. It has its own page: HydraFacial.
Oxygen facial
A hydrating facial that delivers a serum to the skin under a stream of pressurised oxygen. It suits dry, dehydrated and tired-looking skin.
Korean facial
A longer, layered facial of 15 to 18 steps that takes about an hour to an hour and a half. It is often booked before a wedding or event, by people who want a "glass skin" look.
Dermalogica facial
A facial using Dermalogica professional products, matched to your skin after the consultation.
Deep extraction
For congested skin, the facial can focus on carefully clearing blackheads and whiteheads. This is a particular focus of our therapist Deepthy Vadakkar.
What happens at your appointment?
The therapist looks at your skin and asks about your routine, medicines and recent treatments, then suggests the facial that fits. Tell her if you use retinoids or acne medicines, or have active cold sores, as some steps may need to change. If your skin needs medical treatment, such as a chemical peel, she refers you to the doctor.
You leave with simple home-care advice, because a facial works better when your routine at home supports it.
What should I expect after a facial?
Most people go straight back to their day. The skin can look a little pink for a few hours, and extractions can leave small marks that fade over a day or two. Avoid make-up for the rest of the day if you can, and use sunscreen. Facials are often repeated every few weeks; the price is given at your consultation.
Risks and what to expect
What to expect
A medical facial takes from about 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on the facial. Most people go back to their day straight away; mild redness usually settles within hours. Results are temporary, so facials are often repeated every few weeks.
Possible side effects and risks
- Mild redness or a warm feeling for a few hours
- Breakouts in the days after, especially after extractions
- Irritation or an allergic reaction to a product; tell the therapist about any skin allergies
- More sensitivity if you use retinoids or exfoliating acids, or have recently had a peel or laser
Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed. At your consultation your clinician will explain the risks that apply to you, and the alternatives, before you decide.
